Web Design I :: GUI Design
The role that a traditional designer plays in web design is currently a hot topic among professionals in the design industry. One thing is for certain, the Internet is not going away any time soon. Therefore it is important for students of graphic design to gain an understanding of how to create an effective design for the Internet and what challenges they can expect.
Web Design I offers the students of AiH an opportunity to work first with General User Interface (GUI) design while also learning the basic fundamentals of HTML and CSS. For this project, they were challenged to redesign the user interface of the Art Institute of Houston’s website. Paired at random into four separate groups, students had to plan and manage their time in order to meet the five week deadline. Research, surveys, and discussion led to sketches and eventually the final design. Two local creatives—Chris Everson from Primer Grey and Roby Fitzhenry from Always Creative—came into the class and critiqued the student’s final work
